How do I know if my treatment is working, when should my viral load become undetectable

Hi,
I recently started Hepatitis C treatment and am both hopeful and anxious. My doctor will monitor my HCV RNA levels during and after therapy to assess my progress. I understand that viral load disappearance can vary, with some patients achieving it within four weeks, while others may take longer. I'm seeking clarification on what constitutes a normal viral load and how to best determine the medication's effectiveness.

  1. Hi . I'm glad to hear you've started treatment and that you will soon be free of hep C. The good news is that 95 percent of people who undergo treatment are cured. Hopefully, you will be among those people. It's normal to feel anxious about whether that will happen for you. I thought you might find this article from someone who felt like you do now helpful: https://hepatitisc.net/living/finishing-treatment. Here is another article that answers common questions about viral load, including when you are considered cured: https://hepatitisc.net/clinical/viral-load-questions. I hope these articles help. Keep us posted on your progress if you don't mind. I'll be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
