    Overall, HCV has been considered difficult to acquire through sexual transmission. It is important to remember that Hepatitis C is spread from blood to blood contact. For individuals in heterosexual monogamous relationships, the risk is considered to be very low. There are various risk factors that increase potential transmission through sexual exposure. These factors include sexual practices that result in blood exposure. Multiple sex partners, the presence of other sexually transmitted infections including HIV also increases risk of transmission. There has been research that also suggests transmission is increased among men who have sex with men especially among those co-infected with HIV.
