Hi not4long! So sorry for the delay in responding, I'm just now seeing your question! Unfortunately, while it is a great question, it is hard to answer for sure. Some individuals have acute HCV and clear the virus on their own with little to no repercussions, some need multiple treatments and experience devastating declines, and many, many others fall in between. One of the major threats to life expectancy with HCV is liver cirrhosis, which can develop in a few years to a few decades or longer. It depends on so many aspects of the virus itself as well as healthful life decisions such as diet, exercise, alcohol consumption, etc. I'm so glad to hear you've been alcohol free for over 400 days!! That is amazing, and certainly is a positive step towards increasing life expectancy!! While it's hard to assess life expectancy on a general scale, this would be a great topic to bring to your provider. They should be able to analyze many different factors of your specific situation and give you a more accurate answer for your specific case. If you do get a chance to talk with your provider, let us know what they say! We're here for you, and sending positive thoughts your way!! -Casey, HepatitisC.net Team
