My wife and I are concerned about hep C transmission and having a child

Wife and I are very concerned. I have been tested for hep c, after 3 months of treatment now I'm pcr negative. Is it safe to have intercourse and try for a baby? After treatment is there any chance of transmission? We will be getting married soon and it will be her first time having sex. Please guide.

  1. Hi Jayjee, congratulations on your coming marriage and completing treatment! We know that accessing treatment can be especially difficult and we're glad to learn your PCR tests show promising results. Have you had any follow-up testing done? False positive can result with PCR tests and we encourage you to speak with your doctor if you haven't about additional testing. Have you had a sustained viral load (SVR) test yet? These are usually done 3 months or more after completing treatment–and once you achieve SVR, there is no risk for infection. Let us know what questions you have–though I just want to mention that we can't provide medical advice. Be well, Matt (Team Member, HepatitisC.net)

    1. Will get my pcr test for svr after 1 week. (12 weeks post treatment).

      1. Hi keep us updated on your svr test results? Best of luck! We're thinking of you. -Matt (Team Member)
