Just discovered that I have hepatitis C

I am a male in my 20's who just found out I have hepatitis c. I recently went and got some blood work done and my results showed I tested positive for hep c. I'm more confused than anything and have no clue how this happened. I consider myself to be a healthy person. I don't use drugs or alcohol and exercise daily. I'm just really confused.

  1. Hi Ben, thank you for sharing your situation with us–please know we're here with you for support. I understand that you're confused about how this exposure could have taken place–did the professional who shared your results mention how hep C is transmitted? It's spread when infected blood gets into the bloodstream from someone who doesn't have the blood–meaning there is some risk for casual exposure.

What did your doctor say about treatment? Let us know what questions you have and we'll answer them as we're able.

    1. still waiting on more results and lab work. Going to explore some treatment options. Any advice on treatment?

      1. It’s definitely normal to feel somewhat confused by your blood results especially concerning the Hep C positive results. There are several ways one may come in contact with Hep C such as a bad blood transfusion or for instance, in my case, I willingly accepted a Hep C heart organ from an intravenous drug user. After I received my Hep C heart, I took one pill per day of Epclusa for 90 days and I was cured from Hep C. I didn’t have any side effects from Epclusa while taking it for 90 days.

There are a handful of different Hep C drugs. Your doctor is able to have a discussion with you as to what specific treatment options are available to best meet your needs.

I hope you receive some further results in a timely manner. Continue to ask questions, as we’re hear to help give you support. (Leslie, Community Moderator)

    2. Hi Ben the good news is your young and caught this early. Start a treatment program.
I just finished my treatments in May and tested clear of detectable virus.

      1. I’m glad you received treatment for Hep C. I hope you continue to do well. Thank you for sharing. (Leslie, Community Moderator)
