Should my hairdresser know about my hepatitis C?

Should my hairdresser know about my hepatitis C diagnosis?

  1. Hi Mac1, thanks for posting your question to our forums!

I looked into your question and it seems that existing studies can’t confirm or exclude the risk for hepatitis C transmission in a salon. With that said, I think it depends on your comfort and the situation. All grooming supplies should be cleaned after client use, so transmission risks should be low. Transmission risks would increase if you accidentally got cut and drew blood, though I imagine the odds of that are low too. I hope this is a helpful response. Please let me know if you have any other questions about hepatitis C or content on our website.

    1. Thank you for reaching out to the community forum. Your question is a good one. After learning of my hep c., I debated who I should tell. I was afraid so to speak. After learning more about the transmission and such I was better equipped to handle questions if asked by those I needed to share this information with.
During one of my beauty appointments I shared with my hairdresser my health diagnosis. It was quite at first but the more I shared with her the more she asked questions. I got to thinking not only was I passing information to her but also for future clients she could protect herself with cuts and be aware. "Not without a FIGHT!~HCV~" (c)
