Genotype

I've been diagnosed as being Hep C positive. I waited a long time to get my genotype results but they have come back saying I do not have a Genotype??
I was told this was rare and they asked me to take part in a study, I have agreed to this.
Is there anybody been through or has heard of this? I'm being treated with Epclusa as the doc said it has a pan effect across genotypes, is this correct?? Any advice anybody has or experience please help as I feel so confused and scared

  1. This is interesting. I haven’t heard about the Genotype and I took Epclusa for 90 days because I received a Hep C donor’s heart. I’m in a case study for the hospital because of the Hep C organ. I will definitely ask about the Genotype in my next appointment. As far as Epclusa, I didn’t have any side effects when I took it for 90 days in 2019. Hopefully, you will have minimal to no effects as well. (Leslie, Community Moderator)

    1. Leslie, so happy to hear you got a brand new heart and were then treated for the hepatitis C that came with it. It is such a blessing that the researchers are now aware that patients who get infected hearts are curable with the direct acting antivirals. That is such a blessing. Stay well, my friend. 2. I was told my genotype pretty much straight away. I was told I was type 1 and then my treatment would be Zepatier because it works well against type 1 and type 4. I hope it doesn't turn out to be type 3 which is apparently the hardest to treat.

    1. Don't worry trip2themoon. Genotype does not change. Both Zepatier and Epclusa are great treatments. You should be on your way to a hep C free life. Let us know when you start. (Sue, Community Moderator)

  3. Hi there, Toots. It certainly is rare not to have a genotype. Your doctor is absolutely correct. Epclusa is definitely pangenotypic, which means it treats every genotype. You are in good hands. Let us know when you start treatment so we can cheer you on . Good luck, girlfriend, (Sue, Community Moderator)
