Everlywell test detected hep c

My primary dr hasn't confirmed yet. I have an appointment coming up. I took an at home everlywell test and it came back detected. I'm currently 45 yrs old and had covid "undiagnosed". I'm lost 30 lbs, but also cause I thought I may have been diabetic and started eating healthy. I've had this ongoing tongue problem and was wondering if this is a symptom with anyone else...it's been swollen, an indention at the tip an a crease like in the middle. Feels spongy like and cannot seem to stop sucking life outta it. Not sure what to think. Comments and/or suggestions appreciated, thank you!

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community. I am glad you found us. A new diagnosis can be a bit overwhelming, but the good news is that Hep C can be cured. Hopefully, you have caught it early and will have no lasting effects. Hep C can cause a condition called sicca syndrome, but that often comes with a white coating on the tongue as well. Do you have any whiteness on your tongue? Here is an article that discusses mouth and dental issues that can be caused by Hep C, including thrush: https://hepatitisc.net/living/messy-mouth. I hope this helps. I hope your doctor's appointment goes well. Please keep us posted if you don't mind. I will be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. @Lori.Foster Thanks I'm gonna check this out! It's been swollen for over a year an now every so often a taste bud will swell up. Had several pop up couple weeks ago. It is white kinda, but it seems to be spongy like. Not really a coating tho. I've always flossed daily an took care of my mouth. I'm 45 an have only had 1 tooth pulled. Hopefully this will get better an I wont lose any teeth lol. Thank you so much for your response!

      1. hi, not sure if other comment tagged you or not. But I've been taking a probiotic for several months, it's $40 a bottle. Has over 6 million of the CFUs...Guess that's making me believe it's not thrush, hell idk now lol. Do u think even as good as it is it may not help until I'm on a medication for the virus of hep c? Again thank you so much!!

        1. Hi . It is hard to say. Your body is working hard to fight off a Hep C infection, so that is a possibilty. Have you ever discussed the tongue issues with your doctor? If your primary care doctor can't give you answers, maybe you can get a referral to an otolaryngologist (an ear, nose and throat doctor). It might not be at all related to Hep C. - Lori (Team Member)

      2. No, unfortunately I didn't mention anything last 2 times I was there for blood work. I just assumed my body wasn't absorbing nutrients well from all the stress from past couple years. But I had also been taking nutritional yeast with all the B vitamins for a few months. I've been out for couple weeks now an so I did notice they helped but never cleared it up. Dr can't get me in until Oct 13th and that's on a friday....uggghhhh

        1. Oh, boy, ! What a day to go to the doctor's. Hopefully, Friday the 13th will turn out to be a lucky day for you. I wish you could get in sooner to discuss the tongue issues. Could you ask to be put on a cancelation list? - Lori (Team Member)
