What You Need to Know Before Starting Hep C Treatment
With 30 years of experience in what you need to know before starting hep C treatment, I will help you get started. After reading everything I could get my hands on, taking that first pill was exciting but very anxious.
I almost scared myself out of even starting treatment.
Now I want to encourage you by telling you all the tips that will give you an edge while getting rid of the virus.
Preparing for treatment
Family and friends
Let people close to you know when you are starting treatment. Choose those who will be in your corner.
You know, the people who will show up when you are in need. Tell them that you may be less available for going out.
Find out who will make a food run when you’re hungry. If they will binge-watch your favorite shows with you, they’re the right ones.
Who’s your boss
Hopefully, you have a job where it’s okay to take a day off if needed. I didn’t tell anyone at work that I was on treatment.
I only used a couple of sick days. It depends on what kind of work you do, but taking care of yourself on the job will help you have a better experience in the long run.
The nourishment you will need
There is a time to wake up and start the day with coffee and donuts. This is not that time.
Stock up on your favorite vitamin-fortified cereal. Buy some protein shakes to get you through the day.
Make nourishing soup and eat your vegetables. Sweets and treats are fine, but be sure you have a healthy meal every day.
What to drink
You may not be a big fan of drinking plain water. Try putting one of the flavored powder mixes in during hep C treatment. Being hydrated is important, so if you need it to taste like lemonade, tea, or fruit flavor, go for it.
Drinking alcohol is discouraged while on treatment. Give your liver a break and let it begin to heal while you’re taking meds.
Prioritizing self-care and preparing for a positive treatment experience
By putting yourself first now, the rest of your life can be the best of your life. Stay in touch with your medical provider and take their advice. They will offer practical tips to get you through.
Stock up on items for your comfort and care. Good drinks and food are at the top of the list.
Stash away a care kit. Include things like sugar-free candy, tissue, antacids, pain relief meds, and rich moisture lotions. These items should be beside your favorite chair.
Time on hep C treatment is going to fly by. If you are reading this today and have gotten your first bottle of meds, congratulations!
