Tumor marker

I've had HCV for 16 yrs.(known) Probably had for 20 yrs. prior but didn't know it . My tumor marker in the last year has jumped to 5 (from 3 ). What's this mean ?

  1. Hi . I can see why that is concerning for you, but tumor markers are not specific enough to intepret. Any number of conditions can make them increase, including hepatisis C infection. Here is an article from Cleveland Clinic that discusses the use of tumor markers for cancer care, but also lists other conditions that can make them rise: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diagnostics/24813-tumor-markers. Have you been treated for your hep C? Have you talked with your doctor about your tumor markers? I wish I had better answers, but we are not medical experts. So, it's not safe for us to guess at what is going on. Let me know what your doctor has to say, if you don't mind. I will be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
