Hepatitis C - A Disappearing Disease?

Here is a link to a wonderful presentation by Dr. Norah Terrault. Dr. Terrault is a nationally recognized hepatologist from San Francisco. This video is well-worth a listen.

  1. Hello Daryl. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and opinions about the "state" of hepatitis today. While the newer drugs have made great inroads and we are closer to eradicating hep C than ever before, there is still much work to be done. Thank you for your advocacy and patient support.

    1. Before you all pat yourselves on the back, declare this disease cured and go home, how about some consideration for the thousands of patients that are failing these new therapies that claim 95% response rates? I am one of the failures. I saw absolutely no viral response to the only therapy my insurance would pay for. This is disease is not over. The new therapies are better(?), but the cost is outrageous - especially when you are encouraged to take the 12 week course when it is clear after 4 weeks that the treatment is a waste of time and money.

How about work on the treatment failures. Why do 5% of the patients still not show a response? Is it diet, are they naturally resistant to these new drugs, are the clinical trial numbers made up?

      1. HCV30years. I am so sorry I didn't notice this post much sooner. Just last month two new drugs were FDA approved for those few treatment failures. These new treatments are curing 95% of those who failed the last treatments to be approved. Please don't ever give up. I wish you the very best and hope you get to see this.

        1. Thank you responded. Thankfully, thanks to one of those drugs I was able to the pills for 90 days to be cured of hepatitis C after receiving a hepatitis C in 2019. Leslie (Community Moderator)

      2. Hi Leslie Ann. So glad you were cured. It is such a blessing. Enjoy your HCV free life. 😊

        1. Thank you. It’s definitely a blessing to receive a second chance of life thanks to a Hep C organ donor and the Hep C medication I received directly post transplant. Leslie (Community Moderator)
