"Cured" by Mayvret a year and a half ago

After taking Mayvret for 8 weeks, after 90 days I was cured. I've felt bad ever since. My Dr. says it's depression and has put me on a couple anti-depressants, which were a nightmare. Weaned off them completely. I feel like I have a virus, just feel unwell everyday. I was wondering if there is a time limit to this or will I always feel bad? Is it remnants of the Hep C or the Mayvret? My job required me standing all day and there's no way I can do that anymore. Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

Hi gocolts. I am sorry you are not feeling better. Just know you are not alone. We hear this complaint all the time, Sometimes it is because even though the virus is gone, those of us with late stage disease are still feeling the effects of liver disease. The National Institute of Health, in Bethesda, MD is doing a study trying to figure out the answer to this very problem. I assume from your name that you are in Indiana so the study would not be available to you as you live too far away. I do think it helps a bit psychologically to remind yourself that the virus is gone and you likely will not progress and may even feel better as time goes on and the liver heals. I wish you well.

 Thank you for your reply, No I'm in North Carolina. Just happen to be a Colts fan since they were in Baltimore. Does it help that I'm in NC instead of Indiana? Please...

 Sorry for the delay in answering you. The issue is not where you live but can you get to Bethesda, MD for appointments. If you can, call Help-4-Hep and ask them to give you the contact information for the study. Their number is 877-435-7443. In the meantime have patience with yourself.

Hi gocolts, I'm so sorry you are feeling bad. If you have cirrhosis, or taking other medications for other conditions, either of these can have separate issues. If you are taking other medications, talk to your pharmacist about medication side effects. Changing diet and doing mild exercise like walking can help increase energy and stamina over time. Taking a B-12 supplement can help as well. But talk to your liver specialist before taking anything. Personally, my recovery was slow after my treatment. But changing my diet, avoiding alcohol, and doing mild exercise helped me. It took close to a year before I felt well again. You asked if this was a remnant of Hep C or Mavyret? Once you have achieved Non-Detected 12 weeks after completing treatment you are cured. So Hep C is gone. If what you are experiencing is from Mavyret, I can not say, but Mavyret has a phone number you can call to talk to someone who can help you with information. Try these steps to see if you feel better. I know it's frustrating, but recovery can sometimes take a while. Continue to talk to your liver specialist about how you are still feeling. Perhaps more blood work and tests may be needed to help discover what is going on. Keep us posted on how you're doing. I hope you will begin to feel better very soon. I took Mavyret 8 weeks and was cured, but haven't had any side effects from the meds. Still cured after 2 yrs. Feeling unwell could be a lot of things, hopefully your doctor can diagnose whats going on!

Paree .I wasn't on mayvret but similar Epclusa I was cured ,but now I wish I never touched it,my life feels ruined every week a new major problem,I felt better pre treatment ,

I was cured during the Mavyret drug trial 2016. While I felt some improvement afterwards I still felt unwell. It turned out I had other health issues that I wasn't aware of. I firmly feel that having Heo C for a long time and the hidden and not so hidden effects of that trauma sets ones system up to be more susceptible to the many autoimmune disorders out there. For me it was learned I had Multiple Sclerosis for almost the same amount of time I had HepC- 30-35 yrs. That was determined by the 20+ old lesions in my brain. If you continue to feel ill and not get any answers from your doctor suggest to them to test you for autoimmune disorders. There are many out there.

You bring up a good point that having one chronic condition can mask symptoms of another one (especially if they have symptom overlap). Also, certain autoimmune diseases do seem to be "triggered" by traumatic events. Now, what the body deems 'traumatic' varies widely, from vaccinations, to accidents, to chronic stress, to having another serious health condition. So, I don't think you're wrong about how the human body can react to health conditions like Hep C. Thanks again for sharing your insight and your advice. I do hope your MS is being managed and that you are feeling better (although, I know MS brings many, MANY challenges).
