Do You Have What it Takes to Treat
What does it take to treat for the hepatitis C virus? We know that you have to have the medications. Getting over the hurdle to be accepted by your doctor and approved by your insurance is a big battle. But what else does it take to complete treatment? Is there a magic combination of skills that make it easier for one person than it is for another? I don’t think so.
You’ve got what it takes to treat the hepatitis C virus if you can:
You have enough smarts to know that it’s ok to be afraid. Some people think they have to get rid of fear before starting treatment. I say do it afraid. It’s a scary time in life. Smart people feel fear when they’re sick. It causes them to take action.
Listen to yourself.
If you know how to understand how your mind works, you can do anything. Once you figure out that you will argue with yourself while on treatment, you can do handle it. Listen to your self pity thoughts. Be sympathetic with your sad thoughts. Slap your angry self around and tell it to be patient. You’ve got a job to do and YOU can direct your thoughts.
You need a support system of family and friends who you can keep from fighting with long enough to treat. That doesn’t mean you wont’ pick on your caregiver. It also doesn’t mean your caregiver won’t pick on you. It just means you won’t give up on each other. Find someone who will stick it out on the hepatitis C treatment with you.
You’ve got to have financial resources. I didn’t say that you had to have a lot of money. Having resources is different than having money. If you have resources, you know where to get the things you need even when you don’t have money. Think pharmaceutical companies, scholarships, charities, churches, community centers, food banks.
Get over yourself.
What I mean it that in order to get through a tough medical treatment, you have to get over yourself. Put your ego aside. Find some inner strength and determination to get you through the tough times. Like those times when you can’t get off the couch, or you need a ride to work. Learn to lay down your pride, ask for help, and you’ll get through treatment.
It’s actually a cool experience going through treatment. When you come out on the other side you will realize just how strong you really are. You know how to get the most out of your fears. You boss your unruly thoughts around like a CEO. You play nice with others even when you don’t feel like it. You know how to get your needs met even in the face of scarcity.
As a matter of fact, when you find out that you have what it takes to get through hepatitis C treatment, you will never be the same. Not only will you have all of these skills, you KNOW that you have them. It will change every area of your life for the better.
