Forgot to Take Your Hep C Meds? What to Do Next

We can all identify with wanting to take our meds and get rid of hep C. Did you ever forget to take your hep C meds and wonder what to do next?

Sometimes life gets busy, and we might forget a dose. It happened to me.

I freaked out after looking at my pill box and my watch one time during my treatment. I thought it might mean I would not get SVR or sustained Viral Response.

That was a long time ago. I’m hep C-free and have a few tips on what you can do.

What to do if you forget to take your medication

Don’t panic

First, you’ve done the right thing by getting started on the cure for your hep C. Instead of getting into fear, just relax and take a deep breath. Think about what time you took your last dose.

Reach out to your medical provider

Reach out to your medical team. The first call you should make is to your provider. Have your pill dose next to you, and dial the number. Simply tell them what time your dose was scheduled.

Then tell them when the last dose was taken. Even if it is late, go ahead and call if you can’t find the information you need. They may have an answering service if it is after hours.

Keep record of it

If you have missed a dose, make a note in your own health notebook. It is very important to keep a record of doctor or nurse notes. You can also jot down instructions during your treatment.

Read all about it

The pharma manufacturer of your medication likely has a plan for those who have missed a dose. You can call them directly or go to their website.

The information can be found online at the website. You might also find it in the paperwork from your medical provider.

Come up with a schedule

Think about setting up a series of reminders. Keep a calendar on your phone or in your home. Make notes on the job if you are going to take a dose while working.

Keep some snack-type foods with you all the time. Since some meds need to be taken with food, it’s important to have a granola-type bar or a bag of crackers with you.

Try to ensure that you always have water nearby. More than once, I used bottles of water from the back seat of my car to take my Hep C meds.

If you have everything you need to take your meds, such as some food and water, you are less likely to forget. One time, I needed to eat a meal with mine and had to get to a fast food place.

It made me nervous to think that I would forget to be prepared to take my hep C meds. I learned to carry dry cereal and nuts to snack on in my bag and in my car.

Above all, keep going

It’s easy to get busy or have brain fog moments when you are taking medication. If you forget to take your hep C meds, figure out what to do next by following the above steps. Have some ways to remember your meds in place so that it doesn’t happen again.

Above all, keep going until you reach the hep C finish line.
