Diagnosis confusion

Hi all! I'm new here and have a question. My initial test was positive, however the RNA was undetectable. My doctor has referred me to an infectious disease doctor for Hep C. Has anyone else had positive initial test, then RNA negative...and STILL was diagnosed with Hep C? I'm confused...thank you!

  1. Hey

When the antibody test produces a result it means at some point you were exposed to the virus, the RNA gives you the rest of the picture..

It's unusual that they would still refer you to an ID doc given you're undetectable.
Of the many Hep C diagnoses I've encountered, I've never heard of something like this, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily an unnecessary appointment, as your doc has better picture of your health.
